The Kenwood marketing and engineering departments combined forces in the late 1970's to begin what became known as the Audio Purist era of Kenwood audio gear design. The original BASIC series was the first product created under the Audio Purist program. The Basic series exuded an all business appearance and approach to performance and aesthetics. It is among the best separate gear Kenwood ever created.

This is an original series M1 power amp, C1 preamp, and T1 tuner. I refurbished this entire system cleaning all chassis, pots, inputs, and switches.

Kenwood used IC drivers and discrete outputs along with Sigma Drive on the f irst Basic series (ones without a letter following the number). It is the only series to contain Sigma Drive technology. Sigma Drive circuitry extends the negative-feed-back path of the amplifier to the speaker terminals themselves instead of only to the amplifier output terminals.

It requires a four-wire cable or the use of two wire pairs per speaker. The high cost of producing Sigma Drive technology resulted in it being used on a few limited Kenwood models and discontinued. The next owner will have to fabricate their own Sigma cables it is not a difficult task and there are DIY tutorials.
